The Greek cities of Magna Graecia redesigned the appearance of Greek silver coins completely. They developed a new incuse technique used only in Southern Italy, which depicted the same motif on the obverse and the reverse of the coin: on the one face raised, on the other depressed.
The motif on the money of the city of Sybaris was a bull turning his head. The city's coinage came to an early end 40 years later, however, when Sybaris was totally destroyed by Croton.
