Black Sea Coast, Ring Money

Black Sea Coast, Ring Money (obverse) Black Sea Coast, Ring Money (reverse)

The currency in Europe from the 5th to 3rd millennium BC was flint stone. The material was in high demand and traded all over Europe. In addition, rings of bone and shells were used. Later metal rings came in use, first in ancient Egypt, later among the Celts and presumably also among the Germanic tribes. These bronze rings come from the coast of the Black Sea, from what is now Bulgaria.
