The Italian euro-coins have a design unique to each denomination. Each coin is designed by a different artist - this 1-euro-coin, for instance, was created by Laura Cretara. It features the Vitruvian Man, a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci (*1452, †1519). There are no Italian euro-coins dated earlier than 2002, even though they were certainly minted earlier, as they were first distributed to the public in December 2001.
