The 50-franc banknote of the second series shows the portrait of a woman on the front, and a left-handed woodcutter on the back. The illustrations stem from Ferdinand Hodler. Hodler sketched 15 versions of the woodcutter altogether, which today are considered to be among the most impressing depictions of a peasant and his work in European art.
