Roman Republic, Denarius (obverse) Roman Republic, Denarius (reverse)

This Roman denarius from the year 136 BC bears the head of Roma, the goddess and personification of Rome, with a winged attic helmet. Behind Roma's head is a wreath as mint control mark, and beneath it the specification of value X for 10 asses.

The reverse shows the Dioscuri Castor and Pollux. The inscription beneath the hooves of the horses reads SERVEILI. M.F. for the moneyer Gaius Servilius.
