Southern Italy, Calabria, Taras, Bronze Box containing 4 Diobols (obverse) Southern Italy, Calabria, Taras, Bronze Box containing 4 Diobols (reverse)

This box was discovered in a river in southern Italy, and when the deposits that filled it were cleaned out, four silver coins were found within it. This means that the box is probably slightly older than the coins, which date from the late 4th or from the 3rd century BC. The small size of the box implies that it was meant to hold relatively small but precious items.

The coins were diobols from the city of Taras.
