Victoria, the goddess of victory, bears down on a kneeling prisoner fearfully looking up at her. Victoria is holding a war trophy and a palm leaf. The inscription reads SARMATIA DEVICTA, 'Sarmatia vanquished.'

The coin image alludes to a victory of Emperor Constantine the Great in the early 4th century against the Franks. To celebrate his triumph the emperor, who is depicted on the obverse of this coin, had the Frankish kings and many of their soldiers thrown to the wild animals. The execution took place in the amphitheater at Trier.
