The state quarter of Colorado shows Longs Peak, one of the American 'fourteneers': A mountain peak with an elevation of more than 14,000 feet, or 4267 meters. There are 86 fourteneers in the US, 54 of them are located in Colorado. To have climbed all of them is a popular goal among certain mountaineers. The banner on the Colorado state quarter reads 'Colorful Colorado'. The motto alludes to the state's name. That derives from the Colorado River, so called for the reddish silt the river carries from the mountains.
