With the 8th banknote series the Swiss National Bank in 1995 for the first time issued a 200 francs bill. It replaced the note worth 500 francs, which did not exist any longer.
As of 2016 the 8th banknote is being replaced by the 9th series. Unlike before, the old bills remain fully exchangeable: they are withdrawn from circulation but keep their validity.
