The issue of coins by the League of God's House was not intended in the first place to supply the population of its realm with monetary means. Rather, it was about prestige and power. Along with the League, the city of Chur also issued coins during that time – illegally, because it had never gotten the permission for coinage from the bishop. Despite this, the city and the League outperformed in order to strike the most beautiful coins. For that reason, the League even commissioned Jakob Stampfer from Zurich to cut some dies.
