In 1795, after the French Revolution, a decimal currency was introduced in France. For the first time, 1 franc equaled 100 centimes. In the 19th century the franc became the role model of currencies all over the world. Besides, it was the base currency of the Latin Monetary Union, in which France, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy and Greece were united.
