Roman Republic, Denarius (obverse) Roman Republic, Denarius (reverse)

This Roman denarius features on its obverse the head of Roma, the goddess and personification of Rome. Behind her head is as mint control mark a modius depicted, a grain bushel. Under the goddess's chin stands the indication of value, X for 10 asses.

The reverse depicts Victoria, the goddess of victory, driving a two-horse chariot called a biga. Below are two big ears of grain and the inscription M MAR C for the moneyer Marcus Marcius, as well as the word ROMA.
