The 8th series of Swiss banknotes was introduced in 1995 and remained in circulation until 2018. All the notes show artists who contributed to architecture, music, dramatic arts and literature.
The portrait on the 50-franc note features Sophie Taeuber-Arp. This multi-talented artist worked with paint, textiles and clay, but also acted and danced. She was one of the most formative personalities of classical-modern art.
